Challanges:

  • Customer had thermal problem that was preventing shipment of product from factory
  • Reliability was poor and resulted in high maintenance costs

Solution:

  • Thermal and flow regime simulations carried out. Model verified with smoke test
  • Used CFD model to perform "what if" analysis. Proposed changes were implemented.

Outcome:

  • Proposed solution had 4 fewer fans, was more reliable and quieter
  • Allowed customer to use platform for next 2 generations of product
  • Product was around $20 cheaper than before
